Based on the pictures of the crumpled N641UA fuselage, I stand by my personal assessment. Not sure what criteria we want to use, but if that's "minor" damage I sure hope it's not the criteria United and the FAA are using!
It's really very simple.

The men and women who sit in the pointy end of the plane have a vested interest in it not falling out of the sky.

If they had *any thought whatsoever* that such a plane was unsafe, they'd simply refuse to fly it. They have that right, and have that right unilaterally.

Frankly, I'd be more than happy to be on the return-to-service flight on N641UA with ZERO safety concerns.

If the captain and co-captain concur she's safe to fly, I'm all in.
