You used to be ahead of the line, waitlisted for PN spaces. Now, you join the over-entitled 1K crowds (welcome to the PZ spaces line). Anyone with GS’s PPs and 1Ks with higher fare classes (also requested PP upgrade) are ahead of you and your wife.
I cannot answer the other situation for your buddy. It looked unlikely the case if what you said were true.
