Yes, that should be possible. If you don't see the option on the website or app, just call the call centre or use the chat function and they should be able to assist you. What you cannot do is use cash to upgrade a single leg of a multi leg trip (i..e you have JNB/DXB/JFK, you can’t cash upgrade just JNB/DXB) but you can use miles that way (subject to availability of course). But you seem to want to upgrade JNB/DXB/JFK (or whatever) with cash and that is no problem.
