This one has a 4 hr 55 min connection in MUC. SFO-MUC is on UA. When is your trip?

If you absolutely have to be in MLA that evening, I would fly a day earlier.

Yes, you have to go through Schengen immigration at the first port of entry into Schengen. And the lines could be long and slow. Presumably you don’t have an EU passport or EasyPass-RTP?
