Going big means they're liable to get stuck (like AA did) without a 757/767 replacement...the 767 is unfortunately the perfect size for Delta's secondary NYC-Europe and secondary US-European hub (RDU/CVG/IND to AMS/CDG etc) if they don't figure out something.
I think Delta has been holding out for a good 757/767 replacement and so far nothing has come about.
