Wondering if someone can give me guidance for my specific situation:
- I currently have my family of 4 booked one-way in Mint, BOS-AMS, in June. ~300k points plus maybe $2500, IIRC.
- I have 6 MTM certificates that I don't think I'll have an opportunity to use the rest of the year.
So, the question is: Should I cancel the trip above and re-book with certificates to save some money? What is the safest and most efficient way to do this and keep everyone in Mint? The tricky part, I think -- please correct me if I'm wrong -- is that aside from via the certificates, I can't upgrade to Mint after booking, except at the gate. And I don't think I can use either points or certificates for an itinerary where I'm not traveling? (In other words, I can't e.g. put my kids in Mint on one itinerary using points, and then book myself and my wife on a second one using the MTM certs?)
Thank you!
The safest way would be to create a new booking for yourself (if you're the Mosaic). Then you can see how many Mint certs are required on that particular segment. If it's 4 certs you could apply the 4 certs and then cancel your original ticket immediately thereafter for just yourself (calling the Mosaic line and telling them to keep the tickets intact for the other 3 passengers). If it's 3 certs, you could immediately cancel the new booking and create another new booking for 2 passengers (yourself and one other), and then assuming it's still 3 certs required (it's possible there was only 1 seat available for 3 certs) then apply the 6 certs and cancel the original booking for only 2 of the passengers as before. Unlikely the route would only require 2 certs, but if so just follow the same procedure for 3 passengers.
