Then I was royally screwed over by the incompetence of the good folks at BE. In hindsight, it was my dumb mistake for calling on 12/16 when I saw a BXP3 come back to my account that was already confirmed on a March JFK-LHR flight on a $525 coach (V fare) ticket. I had upgraded this using the web site's online upgrade function that started working again. I also got an email confirming the upgrade with the seat assigned. When I called Meeting Services on 12/16, the woman put me on hold to investigate. She came back and said "the help desk said the upgrade wasn't paid for so they moved the seat back to coach". I'm like...huh?! Never mind that I had a confirmation email. She then said if I hadn't called, AA would have probably denied the upgrade since the BXP3 wasn't applied (But it was...according to their email). She had no other explanation and said there was nothing more they could do. While I'm on the phone with her I check to see that, of course, there are no upgradable "C" inventory on the flight they just downgraded so even if I wanted to use points+copay it wouldn't be an option. After that call, I send a support email to BE and they responded that my "company downgraded the flight". No, THEY did it. A follow up reply went unanswered, just as a follow up on where my 6 club day passes are after redeeming on 12/13.
Had I done nothing, like some of you have done and successfully checked in and/or flown, I would still have it in the back of my mind that we try to check in for the London flight and get the dreaded 'see agent' message where they then see in their system that there's an add-collect waiting due to no coupon. I suppose at that point if they didn't honor the email confirmation I could fall back on giving them points + copay at the counter. That happened 2 years ago on a BXP1 that wasn't correctly applied. Got to airport and after 30 minutes on phone with their Helpdesk they figured out that there wasn't a coupon attached to the reservation. They did sort it out, but that's when BE was still operating.
Rant over.....
