Its been almost a 0% chance of success for me even as a GS in 2023. I have pretty much given up on an upgrade on this flight, so its either find a day/time where I can justify the J price (usually the 6am), or I go via EWR/IAD where I've had better upgrade chances.

Getting rid of the 6am BOS-SFO and the 10/11pm BOS-LHR flights both are huge disappointments for me
