Agree with the above. Partly due to local culture as well as unforgiving management, staff are not encouraged to deviate from policy, think outside of the box, or go the extra mile. If you know you're outside of the policy don't get your hopes up. You can politely ask but expect the answer to be no, and be genuinely surprised if you win the lottery with a positive answer.
