Probably because they bought up. I bought an upgrade for my flight today because, using PlusPoints, I was 7th with 5 seats available and the price wasn't extravagant. I show as fare class P, but I still appear on the Upgrade Cleared list.
I was just about to ask the same question as OP. Wife and I are 1&2 for a flight sunday waitlisted with PP, but it shows someone just cleared. I hope that's what happened in my situation.
