I agree your position is justified and makes sense. That's not in question. But it only slightly increases the chances that's the way DL will implement it. They've proven time and again that what makes sense to flyers is subordinate to what serves AmEx and their own shareholders. They've said in the same paragraph "extended status" and "complimentary status." This worries me, and I believe my worries are justified.
