I recall this in a Asia, SIN, HKG, PEK, but I haven't been there since COVID. Whenever I've asked, they always say it is a requirement from the US. Not in Europe or even TLV.
The inspection is typically very short and not thorough so if they want to put on a show I don't see it as any worse than those dumb questions they ask in Europe
