The value assigned to the companion ticket is only what you’re willing to pay otherwise. I had a hard time using mine this year and ended up paying coach ATL-TPA for $300. I never check luggage and I’m a PLT anyway.
The DL changes caused a whole cascade of card moves for me. I ditched: Amex PLT, DL PLT, AS BOA, Amex Marriott, and a Chase Business Ink that was collecting dust. I asked myself why was I carrying all these cards and their associated fees when I can simplify my life and focus on the CSR.
