Strobe light and deafening tone in hotel bathroom at 2am

Last night I was woken up by a deafening continuous tone (no variation in tone, no gaps) and a strobe light flashing in the bathroom of my hotel room at about 2am. The sound and light show was only in the bathroom, not in any other part of the room. It stopped after 20 seconds or so, but recurred twice within a few minutes and then was silent for the rest of the night.

The second time I went out in the hallway and it was clear that only my room was affected.

It didn’t resemble any alarm I’ve ever encountered. This is an accessible room though, which got me wondering if it has different alarms — certainly could explain the strobe (for deaf people) but a fire alarm that only goes off in one room and only in the bathroom doesn’t seem very useful. Moreover, a fire alarm with a sound that doesn’t resemble other fire alarms doesn’t seem like a good idea, so I’m inclined to think it wasn’t a fire alarm.

Any ideas to satisfy my curiosity? Asked the front desk in the morning but they had no idea.
