Sure, go for it! It will satisfy the Diamond itch.
On the flip side, having been a multi year Diamond in the past, GUCs aren’t worth as much as pre-gutting days. I would be more excited to use that money for an actual Japan trip such as lots of decent Michelin Star restaurant dinners and a decent hotel. That experience will be worth more than what Diamond status will get you.
I wouldn’t do a short turn around for Japan; go enjoy the country. Status is never worth more than the actual travel experience of exploring a new country.
