I used to work for an airline that allowed flight attendants and reservations/customer relations folks to use an alternate name (alternate full name in the phone/email agent case). They just had to stick with using that one, and the company had to have record of it (and have approved it) so things could be matched back.

I say this as a former airline general manager who didn't have the option of using an alternate name and had customers find my personal phone number, Facebook, linked in, etc., sending me obscenity and threat filled messages.
