SLOWER than IE? No way, there has to be something wrong with your installation. Firefox is constantly faster than IE, all tests agree with that. There are even ways to tweak it to be even faster than "out of the box".

As for some sites not working, I agree, some web designers have focussed too much on making their site work with IE, and not enough time sticking to the W3 standards. Having a browser that complies 100% with the W3 standards isn't a bug, it's how a browser is meant to be.
