My passport was not due to expire until the end of March 2024. I was going to wait until November, when we return from a trip, to apply for a new one.
Then, our plans changed; we are now planning a trip to a destination which requires six months validity beyond our planned stay.
- I completed the fillable PDF application online, submitted it, printed it and mailed it by Priority Mail on July 5. I paid for expedited service and faster return shipping.
- The application arrived and was picked up at the Philadelphia Post Office on July 7.
- The application was received by the State Department on July 10.
- My check for the passport fee cleared my bank on July 11.
- Application Status: In Process
Unfortunately, according to the tracking number, it was assigned to the New Orleans Passport Agency.
I just noticed the following in my USPS Informed Delivery email that arrived this morning:

Estimated Delivery on: Monday, Aug 07
The U.S. Passport Application Status website now shows "Application Status: Approved." When I previously checked it, most recently on Wednesday, August 2, it was still showing as pending.
And when I actually checked the status of the tracking number, the following shows up:
Out for Delivery
Today: Expected Delivery
