It's completely unprofessional. I would never advocate for someone to be fired or even formally disciplined otherwise for something like this (perhaps he was simply fed up after some recent incident with a passenger and was blowing off steam).
However, the airline, or perhaps even just his peers, should strongly advise him not to repeat this behavior, in my opinion. Paying customers, most of whom are adults, shouldn't be lectured in this manner.
Was it unprofessional on the part of the pilot? Probably. But instead of disciplining him, I'd give him a bonus for trying to get the rude and inconsiderate among us to pull their collective heads out of the dark place is usually is positioned. I've been on too many flights where too many passengers behave as if they own the plane and no one else is on it with them, and I share in the pilot's frustration.
