I am puzzled by your question. AC does this all the time: putting pax on a partner’s flight. I get rebooked to UA a few times for the last two years. Not long ago a post here complaining getting rebooked to TAP when AC TATL flight was cancelled.
In my experience it depends a lot on who you are as to what treatment you get from AC. I know as an SE I usually get whatever I need from AC (rebookings on other metal, best possible hotel option for an unplanned overnight, op-ups to J on AC metal rebookings, etc.), whereas I know wood status friends and relatives tend to get the shaft.
