I am looking at TravelPro Platinum Elite, Briggs & Riley Baseline and Tumi Alpha III. I am willing to consider other brands. I had a number of American made 1050D Tumi bags years ago and they were great but I am imagine they have cheapened the product by now. I have briefly used a BR baseline bag several years ago and had no complaints, I also have a TravelPro Maxlight underseat bag and the quality is noticeably lower than the Tumi and BR (that said it is much cheaper).

I want my bag to be able to hold my backpack on top. My Topaz IATA is too narrow for that. I wonder if this will be a problem for the travel pro.

The Tumi seems to hold the least volume for similar outer dimensions.
If warranty is a factor for you: BR or TravelPro (Platinum line) that qualify for lifetime warranty. If you read enough threads, everyone has hit/miss with warranty issues with either company. Recently, people reported trouble getting in contact with TravelPro for warranty issues.

If warranty is not an issue: Just go with the the one you like the best look wise and fits the best with your packing habits. A luggage is a luggage is a luggage. Pretty much just paying for the subjective bling factor.

No issues with Travelpro or BR with backpack on top. My wife has a Tumi, and no issues with backpack on top either.
