I ran into something that's perhaps related -- I could not switch flights on an AA ticketed DONE4 RTW to a QF flight where they were showing seats in D. I tried with a couple different agents -- the first seemed surprised that it was showing availability but the second did not; he just said that not everything showing in D is available to us.
