No. "Linking" is just text in a reservation that may or may not be read.

Separate tickets are treated a separate.
In the first flight is late its your problem or the good will of AA.
AA used to offer some protection, but that wording changed a few years ago.--> AA Protection on separate oneworld tickets / PNR

Why not book as 1 ticket LHR-RD-Columbus?
