Carrefour is a victim of the shift to online shopping and their own inability to adapt. Their stores are dead or dying all over the country. They were known for being especially ruthless to their suppliers, asking for all sorts of fees and kickbacks to get product on the shelf. Nobody in the retail industry is shedding any tears for Carrefour, although I do feel a bit sad when I see their former Wuning Road store I’m Shanghai with the alfresco painted exterior all boarded up and closed down.
As a former resident and frequent visitor to China, I learned that Carrefour have basically gone the way of e-mail in China. Maps.me was leading me to Carrefour in Changsha and now Shenzhen, but the stores are no longer around. I used to get Glico crackers there, consarnit.

ETA: looks like one "real" Carrefour remains in Shenzhen's Bao'an district, and a fake (quelle surprise) is in Longhua district:

As for other places to shop in Shenzhen, there are Walmarts, Olé, and for the snacks that amuse and/or scare some waiguoren, Muji:

Fish bones, and cucumber-flavored cashews. Asumadre.
