Carrefour is a victim of the shift to online shopping and their own inability to adapt. Their stores are dead or dying all over the country. They were known for being especially ruthless to their suppliers, asking for all sorts of fees and kickbacks to get product on the shelf. Nobody in the retail industry is shedding any tears for Carrefour, although I do feel a bit sad when I see their former Wuning Road store I’m Shanghai with the alfresco painted exterior all boarded up and closed down.
