One reason why fare tends to be high is because of airport pick up taxes that get added on in order for rideshare companies to operate in the airport, which goes to the rideshare companies.
This!!!
I always do this at ORD. As soon as I get off the terminal, take the ATS to Rental car center. While I am on the train, I book my ride and most times it is waiting by the time I get off the train. As a bonus, it also saves the Airport surcharge added by City of Chicago, so I end up paying much less. When I talked to Uber/Lyft drivers, they tell me that they do not have to wait in in "Virtual queues" at ORD if they need to pickup at rental car center & sometimes they have to wait up to 30 minutes at those lots.
