Happened to us at a Radisson property in Sydney long back (2016). We had an early check in (say 7 am). As we opened the room, we saw bags and returned to the front desk immediately. I don't think the occupants realized. The front desk immediately apologized but we had to wait another hour before the other room was ready (no big deal as it was still very early check in)
Multiple senior folks from the hotel including the GM later reached out to us to apologize later at breakfast and we were treated like VIPs (something we don't really like personally)
