No, that would be very unlikely. What is likely is that hotel staff or its contractors were already on alert about someone or something on premises and ended up flagging the OP’s room because of already being on alert for something or someone and the hotel was going to step it up by calling up the room to prep the guest to open the door anyway, DND sign or not. That explains the anger of the people at the door.

Nope. Seen this kind of thing happen at Scandinavian capital hotels even before that mass shooting from the Vegas hotel room. And even after that Vegas incident, during Covid and reopening, even the mid and high end hotels in the region were routinely offering to skip coming into rooms for days and weeks at a time.

Answer the call or not, they likely would have wanted to check out the OP/OP’s room anyway or tried to get the OP to come out of the room and/or open the door for them.
