I think the Delta would be a better bet if the OP is OK with less than a luxury experience. The Marriott is kind of a dump... at least the Delta is newer. On the downside, the food is bad and the service is just OK. But it is connected to the airport via the GO train (which is hugely convenient) and it is a very short walk to the park. And yes downtown Toronto is a bit sterile in my opinion. But the area around the Delta is not terrible. But just to emphasize, even a suite at the Delta would not be considered luxury even by forgiving standards.
Edit to include: I think the Ritz is the go-to for visiting teams. I have only been there once or twice, but noted there were a lot of players there both times. And the food is good.
2nd edit: I am having trouble thinking of a hotel restaurant that is better than the good choices available elsewhere in Toronto. All of the ones I have experienced play it pretty safe. Read: boring. Often good, but boring.
