Around a month ago, I booked a flight for my spouse and myself with Air Canada from YYZ to ICN. Unfortunately, the tickets are non-refundable. However, I recently discovered that I possess a companion pass, which is set to expire on September 13, 2023. Upon reviewing my booking, I noticed the option to change my ticket to a refundable one, albeit with a fee.

Considering this situation, I am eager to learn about the best course of action to make the most of my companion pass and reduce the overall cost of our trip. I am particularly interested in understanding the available options and any potential limitations or conditions that may apply.

My current plan involves the following steps:

1. Changing my existing ticket to a refundable one.
2. Requesting a refund for the original non-refundable ticket, which has become refundable with the change.
3. Booking a new flight using the companion pass.

I would greatly appreciate your advice on whether this plan is the right step to take. Specifically, I am curious to know if I would receive the full amount I originally paid if I request a refund for the ticket.

Thank you in advance for your insights and guidance. Any information you can provide would be immensely helpful and greatly appreciated.
