Another possibility: refuse to go to Japan unless it’s in business class. Especially if your trip will add significant value to your company or not going would cost them a lot. An executive flying 10+ hours to close a 6 figure deal should not be flying coach
While I would love that too be a good excuse, I doubt these days that many companies would accept a refusal to follow policy.
And if they let you go a day before then its really not such a big deal.
