I have a permanent residence visa and am traveling with my Japanese wife. We left Japan last week for the US and will return to Japan next week. I realize that there will be no requirement to show vaccination proof when entering Japan. But what about some kind of QR code to show? Our details are registered on the Visit Japan Web site, but I don't see any QR codes there to show for immigration in Tokyo. Am I missing something? Is that something only required for tourists, not residents? Thanks for the help.
The codes aren't really necessary to get for anyone -- but they definitely can save you time at immigration and customs -- my Japanese wife uses VJW every time we come back (we are back now) -- and she used it last week when we arrived. Think of it more as an electronic version of all the paper we used to have to fill out as that's really what it is now... Scan your passport, scan the QR code, and walk out the automated gates.
