Just to add another data point - I booked a flight in August (Latitude) to LAS last month...I called into Aeroplan yesterday because I wanted to cancel it as I have a bigger need for that companion pass for a trip that's come up...
  • Called Aeroplan, transferred my call to AC
  • Got AC agent, who transferred my call to "Companion Desk agent" <didn't know such a thing existed>
  • He was able to <in this order> release the confirmed eUps <took the most time>, cancel the companion fare, cancel my fare, pass now available
...the weird thing is that the pass does not show up in my aeroplan benefits <even after 24hrs>, but if I try to purchase a paid fare, it shows up as available discount
