Air NZ fly AKL-JFK now, QF have announced SYD-AKL-JFK from 20 June.
Air New Zealand (Star Alliance) fly LAX SFO IAH JFK YVR ORD– AKL.

For many passengers USA-Australia/New Zealand is the same market.
