Griping about glob-lites is understandable, but that is exactly how I started with Hyatt. A few years ago, I got some sort of offer that allowed me to attain Glob for only 30 nights. Prior I had mainly been with Marriott - getting over 100 nights per year. However, it wasn't as good as the old Starwood so I thought why not try Hyatt and see what it's all about. I achieved Glob lite and really liked the program and hotels. So now for the past few years I've been a true Glob at 60+ nights butt in bed (along with some cc nights). Hyatt has taken business away from a competitor and now has a loyal customer. It's smart for them to offer this sort of thing... without it, I would still be with Marriott at 100+. Now I'm more like 60/40 Hyatt/Marriott with a little Hilton and IHG sprinkled in. There is simply no way Hyatt gets me to switch if I must achieve 60 nights before being on par with Marriott's Titanium benefits.

I look forward to welcoming others who are shifting stay patterns like me. This is not a zero sum game. They are not gaining travelers who were previously sitting on the couch and who are now staying lots of nights solely at Hyatt. They are shifting behavior... and so now, while it is possible there will be more competition at Hyatt (for upgrades) there may be less at Marriott and other chains where these people are coming from.
