Basically, those countries who didn't require PRC-outbound pax to produce a covid test are now exempted:

It's now "honor-based"..
"Airline companies will no longer check the negative PCR or RAT test results."
"Starting from 1 March 2023, instead of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, rapid antigen test (RAT, including RAT home testing kit) results will be accepted for air passengers flying directly to China."
An interesting hodgepodge of countries:
The new rule applies to travellers from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Russia, Switzerland, Hungary, New Zealand, Egypt and South Africa.
I suppose, if Taiwan (where I'm connecting) is part of the club, it wouldn't be included on such a list...so, I'll try calling the airline on Monday. I don't expect them to be policy experts, but if they were to give me a convincing green light, I might be inclined to skip the PCR test.
