The hotel apparently used to provide a piece of fruit and a muffin. At rates of $400 a night, you'd think they'd suck up the $1 per guest it costs them rather than flout the rules.
Is Bonvoy Assist a chat agent or someone on the phone? I would call and escalate to supervisors until you get a satisfactory outcome. You could also try with
Marriott Bonvoy Lurker but I'm not sure they are on the weekend.
