Chase won’t compensate you points for an interruption either, no insurance will. ANA will rebook you, or I think if a flight is completely cancelled then they might refund you half the points (quite rare though).

Yes, I realize the 3k comes out of the canceled awards. But what if the issue happens in the middle of trip? Bc ANA only allows RT awards, there is no canceling the second half. And if the trip interruption is, say, illness rather than flight cancellation, what happens then? I read on flyertalk since posting that Chase reimburses at a rate of $.01/point but that was an older post.

What if You Paid for Your Trip Using Redeemable Chase Rewards? In the event of a loss, Rewards redeemed for travel will be reimbursed in an amount equal to their monetary value. If the monetary value of the redemption does not appear on the Trip itinerary or redemption confirmation issued by the Travel Supplier, we will reimburse each point redeemed at a rate of $.01 per reward unit. Redeposit fees imposed by a Rewards program administrator are also eligible for reimbursement.
