It's not just European airlines, look at people complaining about UA and CX.
The problem is that people are generally not willing to pay more for the legacy airlines. And people think Scandinavia Malaga at 100 euro is expensive, and that then what they get.

No, it is not just Europe, but it is worse in Europe. UA and CX are not in the same market, so a very different comparison.
