The terminal is beautiful. But still requires long walk to subway and long subway to baggage claim at the old terminal.
Shenzhen's 2014 terminal number of gates plus the new satellite terminal number of gates together are about the same as the number of gates in ATL T and A and B concourses. Which gives ATL all the C and D and E and F gates as above and beyond Shenzhen's whole airport. True, ATL is not very beautiful. But there are plenty of toilets and Skyclubs and you can walk between all concourses in case of a subway failure.
I flew out of SZX the first day the new terminal opened. 3 weeks later, my second flight out, I had to take a bus to my airplane parked next to the old terminal, 7 (?) km away.
