I really appreciate the help I've received from everyone here, but I'm still questioning the advice of some that transfers from Amex, Chase or Citi can't extend the expiration date,
at least for those of us who've only accumulated FB miles via such transfers (and no flights). That's my situation. And to recap, my expiration date was October 2023 until I transferred in 1000 Amex points a few days ago. It was then extended to January 2025. And the wording is specific to all of my miles: It says "287,000 valid until January 31, 2025."
I've now reviewed the comments in the several threads that NickB kindly provided, as well as comments at this site:
https://frequentmiler.com/air-france...han-i-thought/ Around 10 or 12 report expiration dates extended (including into 2023 and 2024) by virtue of Amex or Chase mileage transfers. A couple report failure, but even then this is clear from the fact that their expiration dates were not extended - no indications of their being misled by the FB site in this regard and then their miles clawed back despite the expiration dates.
What I haven't found in any of the comments is word of FB clawing back any supposedly expired miles where the expirations dates were extended by points-to-miles transfers . I know that we're early in 2023, and that airlines have done stranger things. But it seems that an FB expiration date can be trusted. As for the notion that it would not make sense for FB to extend expiration dates for non-flying (or non-FB credit card) activity...well, many or most airlines and hotel chains do offer such extensions.
So...I'm very curious why some folks here (not NickB, unless I'm misunderstanding his post) insist that new points-to-miles transfers can't extend expiration dates, in view of all these data points. At least for FB members who have accumulated miles soley through transfers, and perhaps for others, it seems that transfers are sufficient.
In addition, there seems to be a definite downside to getting FB miles through flying for those who haven't done this before, in that it negates the the points-to-miles expiration extension option for them.
If I'm wrong - and I grant that's a real possibility - please let me know why you're certain that's the case. More specifically, I haven't found instances of FB members losing miles when they've done what I've described and when the site has confirmed their experation dates. Have you?
