Instead, when they arrived they were received by a frosty desk clerk who refused them any Globalist benefits (no upgrade, no breakfast, no late check out). They asked about a possible suite upgrade and the clerk told them it would cost $60/night. When they pointed out Globalists receive free suite upgrades, the clerk responded that no free upgrades were available. At the time I made the reservation, only 2 twin bed rooms were available for booking using points, but I assumed they would at least be upgraded to a King bed room on the Club floor. Nope, 2 twin beds on a low floor was it. And then, here's the kicker, he said that since they had booked their stay using points that they were not entitled to any upgrades or benefits (subtext: stop complaining and be thankful that we are even allowing you to stay here). I told them to complain to the manager the following day, which they did, and were ultimately upgraded to a Club floor and offered free breakfast during their stay as an apology for the inconvenience. But I am embarrassed for the way that they were treated (as my guests) and would never go back to this hotel.
I would also follow up as the Globalist member with Hyatt HQ. It may not make much of a difference but they have to be informed of bad actors.
