I just misunderstood you needed to request stuff for the second go round, once I had figured it out on the second flight it wasn't a big deal.
My pre-pandemic experience is that on both EY and QR there is a meal service after takeoff, driven by both passenger expectations and FA convenience, but this does not mean there is no DoD. You just have to ask that the meal be served later. Of course F is different because there are so few passengers. In J they don't proactively say "When would you like to eat?" Still DoD is better than no DoD.

I am not sure why subsequent food service should be hard to figure out. If you look around, someone is being served food at most times during the flight.
