Those drugstore and mall cards work great for spending for account opening bonuses, but it is the 3X or 4X miles or 6X points at grocery stores that drives MS for many in the Midwest who have long done the Kroger to WalMart to bank/credit card money flow.

With no Simon Mall locations, the $6.95 per card fee simply makes Debit Card MSing at drug stores unpalatable other than for minimum spending for credit card sign-up bonuses. At 6.95 per card plus WalMart fees, stamps if you mail the money orders to the credit card companies, and gasoline on the trips between locations, it just doesn't make sense without large spending bonuses like so many credit cards offer at grocery stores. At $6.95 per card at drugstores, you can be looking at a total cost of $9 - $10 per $500 of spending, especially if WalMart limits the number of debit cards that can be liquidated per trip.

So for many people in the Midwest, the demise of UBS cards in grocery stores limits the amount of worthwhile MSing, especially if a person has gotten most of the credit card account opening bonuses he/she can get. The numbers only made sense for recurring bonuses on grocery store spending, hassles of USB cards, notwithstanding.

Am I missing something?
