When DEN was built, it was on an empty plain about 3/4 of the way to Kansas (slight exaggeration, but only slight). and was 20 miles from downtown and surrounded by agriculture. Over the past 20 years or so, Hundreds of houses and apartments have been built along E470, Pena, and E 56th. Now, people who moved to that area, knowing that it was near the airport, complain about noise and construction.
Between this and the environmental roadblocks, new large-scale construction projects are all pretty much stillborn.
In conclusion, the US is screwed. Let's just pick up a Bible and build nothing in this country.
