I have had experience with AVML (Indian veggie meals) on AF in J, usually SFO-CDG-SFO, many times over the years (although the last time was half a year ago). I usually don't expect a good vegetarian meal from AF.

Last time the AVML wasn't even Indian, it was a boring and tasteless meal of steamed rice with some limp vegetables (including bok choy). When I mentioned (politely, and in french) to the purser that the AVML meal was not correct and asked for a vegetarian (pasta) dish from the regular menu if there was any extra, he argued with me that it had bok choy and was therefore "asian" and walked away. However, he did deliver a vegetarian pasta dish later to me.
