They have confirmed to me that this should not make a difference.

Wish me luck -- Expedia supervisor just referred me back to Delta (for the third time today) and gave me "different" phone numbers. Phone number just takes me back into the same Delta Airlines general phone system! :-( I'm fully prepared for Delta to tell me yet again to contact the "Delta" hotel provider.
You get an A for persistence. I would’ve given up long ago.
