I might try this, but I would be aware that there still is a slight risk. Also depends upon the conditions for the second ticket. If a no show means you lose it, or not.
I am not too concerned about about the AA flight, its an award ticket, I have had good luck changing last minute if I had too
I been through either yul or yyz like 2-3 times, but been few years, I can remember one took 1 hr to walk through immigration and one took 10 mins, with the kids
I am just doing the cheap route since i have $1800 in AC gift cards, but It might not be worth it
