The number of times this matters to me is almost nil. I almost never get turned down for a late checkout at Hilton, but it's almost never much past noon. But if it's meaningful to you, sure.

Generally I find Hilton does more meaningful and frequent promos than Marriott. It may just be their business model to shell out more points in promos and credit cards and charge more points in redemptions. I find it works for me (over the years I've probably been more attached to Hilton than Starwood/Marriott, though I am pretty free agent when it comes down to it) but I'm not often in the higher end hotels that Marriott devotees get all hot and bothered about (that Marriott has more of)... it's hard to find a lot of difference between a Homewood Suites and a Residence Inn, a Hampton Inn and a Courtyard.
