Also, if one gets a new passport a year early that's like a 10% increase in cost, likely negating any potential cost increase in obtaining one before next July. Finally, the pandemic-related delays in passport renewal seem to be over already. That's not what the passport office is telling people but is the reality of what people in this thread have been reporting .
Agreed! But OP seems to have anxiety about the process which is why I suggested doing it now while one can pretty decently know what to expect. Yes, a year early is a 10% lost, but that's also only about $13 at current costs - or just 3 gallons of gas.
